Heavy Moon weapon overview.
Heavy Moon is a moon-shaped blade that is able to transform into a Battleaxe and a Chainsaw. Heavy Moon has’s AXE MODE (officially called Moon Axe Form) allow it to attack with a vicious barrage of attacks in the form of Moon Storm and Moon Slash. This is vaguely similar to the Boost Mode of the Boost Hammer. Its Raging Moon attack transforms the weapon into a chainsaw after a long charge and then digs it into the Aragami for a multi-hitting powerful attack. Heavy Moon has a good selection of Burst Arts that allows it to handle most situations.
Heavy Moon deals both Crush & Slash typed damage. The Heavy Moon’s Battleaxe Mode also has a slight increase in damage depending on how much OP you have so it benefits from increased max OP skills. (The increase caps at 150 OP)
Strengths:
- Good damage
- Easy to use
- Offers a lot of variety in how it can be played
- Battleaxe Mode doesn’t drain Stamina
- Good selection of Burst Arts
- Has more Jump & Step Burst Arts than most weapons
Weaknesses:
- Rather short range
- Raging Moon can be a bit hard to use effectively
Heavy Moon is for players who like style and variety. The Heavy Moon’s moveset is straightforward and easy to understand. Its also a fun weapon to use and has a good set of Burst Arts that can cover all situations. Heavy Moon is a weapon with little faults and it is also an easy weapon to use aside from learning how to use Raging Moon proficiently. Therefore, it is suitable for both beginners and advanced players alike who want a solid weapon that they can get a lot of mileage out of.

RECOMMENDED BURST ARTS
Recommended Burst Arts are indicated with a in the tables above. Burst Arts that are recommended are due to them having appealing qualities such as good damage output, ease of use, low risk and good reward or good special passive effects. With that being said, I highly encourage all players to try out all of the Burst Arts and use what they like and feels natural to them. I also encourage players to change their Burst Arts according to what you will be fighting on the next mission to optimize mission efficiency.
Noteworthy Ground Arts:
- Roaring Axe Combo (剛斧轟連撃)
- Moonlit Dawn (有明月夜)
- Apocalypse Axe (終焉ヲ告ゲル斧)
Roaring Axe Combo (剛斧轟連撃) deals decent damage and can be used during openings to net damage.
Moonlit Dawn (有明月夜) suffers from the same problems as the Buster Blade’s Overkill. Its Lv1 charge has some usability, but its full Lv3 charge is the single longest charging attack in the game. If the Lv3 charge ever connects, its extremely powerful but it would need very special circumstances to be viable such as the use of Hold or an Engage that reduces the charge time of skills. It also has this problem that when it does connect, the Aragami flinches away and you end up missing the attack in some cases.
Apocalypse Axe (終焉ヲ告ゲル斧) is a Charge Crush-like move and boasts the move with the longest range on the Heavy Moon. Its damage is surprisingly big for the low amount of time it takes to charge. It also uses no Stamina when charging. If you preempt a down, you can usually squeeze two of these devastating attacks in for high damage.
Noteworthy Jump Arts:
- Lunar Orbit (十六夜)
Lunar Orbit (十六夜) offers great damage, fast attacks, a huge hitbox and safe recovery. It is the go to for Heavy Moon in all situations and will never betray you as your bread and butter burst art. It is actually so good that it is hard to recommend other Air arts over it.
Noteworthy Step Arts:
- Supermoon (スーパームーン)
- Moonlight Blade (月下美刃)
The Heavy Moon has an all-round good set of Step arts. Supermoon (スーパームーン) has an awkward hitbox, but deals a good amount of damage in a short space of time. Its especially effective if you can hit a weakpoint.
Moonlight Blade (月下美刃) is powerful on downed Aragami in comparison to how quickly it comes out. The key is that you need to hit a weakpoint or a part that isn’t well armored to deal good damage. This can be tricky due to how the art flips out as if it were a pocket knife. A good tip is to keep the part you want to hit on the right side of your step and let your character swing in to it.
