Short Blade weapon overview.

Short Blade is the One Hand Sword of God Eater. Its a fast attacking weapon that specializes in aerial combat due to its Rising Edge and Air Steps. Its sometimes overlooked for being a weak weapon due to its low attack power but its actually very strong. It also has strong Burst Arts and a good variety in how it can be played.

Short Blade deals both Slash and Pierce typed damage. The Short Blade can also use ‘Advanced Step‘ and ‘Advanced Jump‘ techniques which essentially allows it to cancel recovery animations of attacks by transitioning into steps and jumps.

Strengths:

  • Fast attacks
  • Superior aerial combat
  • Especially good at inflicting debuffs
  • Good selection of Burst Arts
  • Air Step has built-in invulnerability frames

Weaknesses:

  • Short range
  • Sometimes struggles to break parts
  • Can be a liability if you don’t like air combat

This weapon is for players who like fast attacks and like being in the air. Rising Edge transitions to the air and you can stay in the air with an air step and a double jump. Short Blade has very good Burst Arts all round. However, the player has to have a good understanding of how its moveset works in order to be proficient with it. In particular, with Ground/Air Step and Jump canceling. This makes Short Blade have a little bit of a learning curve.

Ground Heavy Attack Combo

Basic combo. 5 consecutive thrusting attacks. Relatively good range but with narrow hitboxes.

Air Light Attack Combo AIR ◼>◼>◼

Basic air combo. 3 Fast slashing attacks in the air. Good range and allows you to stay airborne for the duration of the combo.

Air Heavy Attack AIR ▲

Basic air attack. Downwards thrusting attack from the air. Has a bit of recovery after the landing.

Light Step Attack Step+◼

Basic step attack. Fast and short range swipe attack. Range is surprisingly small.

Heavy Step Attack Step+▲

Basic step attack. Fast overhead slash with the blade. Short range, but fast.

RISING EDGE R1+◼

Upwards rising attack with the Short Blade. Attack propels you into the Air and can be followed up with Air actions. Can be used to dodge ground based attacks.

SPECIAL AIR Step

Short Blade is the only weapon in the game that allows air Steps. These work identical to ground Steps except that you cannot perform the ground Step attacks from them. However, you may follow up the step into any other Air action.

GE3-BA-passives-AIR-OKx60 Allows you to perform air action follow-ups after executing the Burst Art.
GE3-BA-passives-+InfiniteOKx60 Allows you to repeat the Burst Art continuously by pressing the attack button repeatedly until you run out of Stamina.
GE3-BA-passives-ARMORx60 Allows you to ignore some incoming attacks during a portion of the Burst Art. You still take full damage, but you don’t get staggered out of the attack.
GE3-BA-passives-HP+x60 Allows you to absorb a certain amount of HP on hit.
GE3-BA-passives-OP+x60 Increases the amount of OP the Burst Art gains on hit.
GE3-BA-passives-WK-POINTx60 Increases damage to Aragami weakpoints. You know you’ve struck a weakpoint when the damage counter turns yellow.
GE3-BA-passives-DOWNEDx60 Increases damage when Aragami are downed.
GE3-BA-passives-IGNOREx60 Damage isn’t reduced when attacking an Aragami’s hardest parts. In other words, you won’t deal grey damage when using these Burst Arts.
GE3-BA-passives-ELEMENTx60 Increases damage when using an elemental weapon and an Aragami is weak to that element.

RECOMMENDED BURST ARTS

Recommended Burst Arts are indicated with a RecommendedSignx20 in the tables above. Burst Arts that are recommended are due to them having appealing qualities such as good damage output, ease of use, low risk and good reward or good special passive effects. With that being said, I highly encourage all players to try out all of the Burst Arts and use what they like and feels natural to them. I also encourage players to change their Burst Arts according to what you will be fighting on the next mission to optimize mission efficiency.

Noteworthy Ground Arts:
  • Gale Dance (疾風の舞)
  • Rising Shock (ライジングザッパー)
  • Dead End (デッドエンド)

Due to Short Blade having a strong level of air combat and high mobility, the Rising Edge Arts are the obvious picks to accentuate the weapons strengths. Rising Shock (ライジングザッパー) is a good fast art that can be coupled with Blade Storm BA Effect to deal many hits and transition into Air Arts very quickly.

Dead End (デッドエンド) is a slower and heavier version of the Rising Edge, but ignores a % of armor and deals good damage. The Rising Edge Arts can be followed up by an Air Art to add damage or a jump/air step away for safety.

Gale Dance (疾風の舞) isn’t a flashy art, but its a trustworthy ground Art that deals a good level of damage to weakpoints without consuming stamina or moving around too much.

Noteworthy Jump Arts:
  • Lightning Scourge (凶渦の雷光)
  • Rampaging Comet (ランページコメット)

Lightning Scourge (凶渦の雷光) is a very good art that offers two good passive effects, but its hitbox is very narrow and sometimes you may have to double jump to position yourself properly to strike a weakpoint.

Rampaging Comet (ランページコメット) is a very strong Art and offers a high level of utility. However, understanding its trajectory needs some practice and you kind of have to predict where a weakpoint will be in about a half second due to its relatively long startup.

Noteworthy Step Arts:
  • Whirling Death (風刃旋光)
  • Stinging Flare (フレアスティンガー)

Whirling Death (風刃旋光) is recommended for its overall ease of use and speed. Its damage is far from high, but it fits into a moveset with heavy ground and air Arts quite well.

Stinging Flare (フレアスティンガー) is similar to a certain Spear step Art. it offers strong damage (especially on downed Aragmi) and a high range of mobility while being relatively safe. But can have some issues with the lock-on system if you end up crossing behind an Aragami during the attack.
